Swimming pool in Borgarnes

There are a ton of activities you may participate in when visiting Iceland. Beautiful waterfalls, recognisable mountains and landscapes, hotspots in nature, and geothermal areas. There is one thing that you absolutely must do: go to a local pool at least once. It can be difficult to fit everything into your travel schedule.

Due to its extensive use of geothermal energy, Iceland has many natural thermal springs. You can unwind throughout the day or at night in any of them, some of which are paid and others which are free. If you wish to take a bath and unwind in warm water while staying in Borgarnes, driving through, or simply visiting the town, you can soak in the local swimming pool.

Please be aware that before entering the water, all visitors must take a full shower without wearing a swimsuit.

Are you afraid, that you´ll not find the way. We can easily navigate you here, if you don´t know hot to get to the swimming pool in Borgarnes. It doesn´t matter if you drive from north or from Reykjavík, but going through the town, you will see the gas station N1 at the cross road. You turn to direction, as you want to drive closer to N1, but you will continue straight and on your left, you should see the grocery store Netto.

There you just continue straight and turn left on the third possible turn to the left. Continue just a few meters, until you´ll get to another small crossroad where you can choose to drive right (little downhill) or left. Turn left and continue, until you´ll get to the parking lot in front of the swimming pool.

krauma-baths-iceland

The closest and recommended place to Borgarnes is are Krauma baths, which you can find if you drive to small town Reykholt on the east (not the one in the Golden circle). Krauma baths offers few hot tubs in nice location, sauna and the inside bar (drinks are allowed in hot tubs). The entrance ticket to Krauma is a more expensive then a visit of local pool, but the experience is more breathtaking.

Hvammsvík hot springs

hvammsvik-hot-springs

A bit more far away and also smaller then Krauma are baths in Hvammsvík. The resort is built on the foundation of natural hot springs in the Hvalfjordur fjord. There is also a small guesthouse nearby where you can rent an apartment right next to the ocean and buy some local snacks.

If you just want to stay in the swimming pool and the baths and hot springs are not the right choice for you, you can drive to nearby town called Akranes and enjoy the chill in the swimming pool there.

Guðlaug

The last alternative is located in town Akranes as well and its called hot tubs Guðlaug. Is just next to the swimming pool, on the beach and there are some great views from the three levels of the pools. These baths are literally just across the street, closer to the ocean. The prices for these baths are even lower than those for the pool, so if all you want is a warm dip in a hot tub, you might be interested in this option.
