Swimming pool in Stokkseyri

Iceland has a large number of natural thermal springs since it uses geothermal energy frequently. In any of them, some of which are paid and others which are free, you can relax all day or all night. A good alternative for many locals and tourists is a swimming pool, where you can enjoy a large pool for a reasonable price, as well as frequently different forms of whirlpools or saunas.

One of the lovely towns in south Iceland is Stokkseyri, known mostly for the local sea food restaurant Fjöruborðið, ghost museum or lake, where you can take kayaking tour. But it´s also place, where you can visit great local swimming pool and warm up yourself after long day of travelling through Golden circle or other trip in Iceland.

Please be aware that before entering the water, all visitors must take a full shower without wearing a swimsuit.

Size and facilities

Swimming pool in Stokkseyri has one thermal pool which is 18 meters long.

In addition to the main pool, there are:

2 hot tubs
2 changing rooms

Prices and tickets

Tickets for the swimming pool n Stokkseyri can be purchased at the cashier located directly inside the building’s entrance.

Adults pay 1100 ISK, however the elderly pay 200 ISK and those with disabilities have free access. Same goes for kids under 10, while children aged 10 to 18 must pay 160 ISK. A towel or swimsuit can also be rented there for 850 ISK each. As in every swimming pool in Iceland, the credit cards are accepted.

Adress, location and contacts

Stokkseyri village in not a very big place, so it will be very easy for you to find the way to the local swimming pool. You can see the building as soon as you get to the “centre” of the town. The building of pool is just few metres from the biggest crossroad in the town. Its just next behind the Kayaking tours office with a small parking lot.

The closest swimming pool to Stokkseyri is the one in the city Selfoss. You can find here bigger swimming pool, with more pools and hot tubs and also longer opening hours. It might be more busy in swimming pool in Selfoss, but there is not much a big difference in price.

Unfortunately there are no natural alternatives, when it comes to pools or hot springs nearby Stokkseyri. There is well know geothermal area in town Hveragerdi, where you can find another swimming pool but the hot river as well. The experience of hot valley and river Reykjadalur is definitely something, what worths a trip, but if you are looking just for a relax in the end of the day, we don´t recommend it.
