Swimming pool Keflavík

Iceland is a country that offers many natural thermal springs thanks to geothermal energy. Some of them are paid, others are free, but in all of them you can enjoy relaxation during the day or at night. For many locals as well as tourists, however, a suitable alternative is a swimming pool, where you can enjoy not only a large pool for a small fee, but often also several types of whirlpools or saunas.

The swimming pool in Keflavík can also be a suitable alternative for you to the thermal springs in the vicinity. Thanks to the long opening hours and enough space, it is not a problem to go here on any day and experience how the local people from Iceland spend their free time.

Please note that all visitors are required to shower thoroughly without a swimsuit before entering the water.

Size and facilities

In Iceland, the majority of “hot tubs” are actually amenities at what you may refer to as “a standard swimming pool.” Iceland’s public swimming pools are all geothermally heated, and the majority of them offer some sort of hot tub service.

In the majority of locations in Iceland, this would be your sole choice for a hot tub. Only a few locations have “unique” amenities like the Blue Lagoon and other comparable items, and they are frequently very “touristified.” Like the locals, you can visit the “normal” swimming pools for an economical and “genuine” Iceland hot tub experience.

The size of swimming pool in Keflavík (called Waterworld) is 50 metres long (for the indoor pool). The outdoor pool is 25 metres long and you will find many hot tubs with different depth and temperature around the main outdoor pool.

The Waterworld swimming pool is definitely the best pool in the area, but not the only one. If you prefer smaller and calmer places, you can definitely check the swimming pool in nearby villages Sandgerdi or Gardur.

Little bit more far away, in town Grindavík is another swimming pool and also famous Blue lagoon, which offers much better experience.

Skátalaug could be the good alternative for those, who prefer natural and small hotsprings without admission. You can find Skátalaug on the way from Keflavík to Reykjavík, near to lake Kleifarvatn.
