Seljalandsfoss waterfall

Þórsmerkurvegur, Iceland

In the southwest of Iceland you will discover one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country. Its depth reaches 60 meters and is fed by the river Seljalands, created by the Eyjafjallajökull glacier known around the world.

The interesting thing about this waterfall is that you can not see it from one angle, but you can enter behind the waterfall in a small cave from where you will have an unforgettable view.

The beautiful Seljalandsfoss Waterfall is easily accessible from the Ring Road. The Seljalandsá River, on which the waterfall is located, flows from a glacier on the Eyjafjallajokull volcano.

Seljalandsfoss falls from a height of 60 meters and is one of the highest waterfalls in Iceland. It is also the only waterfall in Iceland where you can reach beyond the falling body of water.

The water from the river Seljalandsá falls from a height of 60 meters and forms a beautiful waterfall Seljalandsfoss, behind which you can walk and take similarly beautiful pictures like this:

Like the vast majority of natural attractions in Iceland, Seljalandsfoss Waterfall is located just off the main road in the southern part of the island.

Thanks to its easy accessibility, it is one of the most visited places in Iceland. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that the 60 meter high waterfall can be bypassed from behind.

The trail leads past a waterfall of caves dug into the former cliffs. The view from the cave of the falling masses of water surrounded by green moss is unforgettable. It is necessary to count on a small shower of reflected water drops.

TIP: It’s probably no secret today, but a lot of people in a hurry miss it. We are talking about the neighboring waterfall Gljúfrabui.

It is ingeniously hidden in the rock just a few hundred meters further along the path to the north. Waterfalls are mostly magical places, but cave waterfalls are even more magical.

About 300 meters north is another waterfall Gljúfrábui (also called Gljúfrafoss), falling into a small lagoon hidden behind a stone wall.

To get here, you have to cross the stream that forms the waterfall and also count on a smaller shower.
